Vintage Solid 18K Yellow Gold Oval Moissanite Scalloped Ring Size 4.25

This solid 18K yellow gold moissanite ring centers an oval cut stone in a scalloped open frame with a vintage inspired silhouette. The center stone is held by four wide claw prongs at the compass points, and the frame around it is cut in a lobed scallop with small beaded fleur accents at the top, bottom, and each corner, so the gold traces a decorative outline around the stone the way an antique locket bezel would. The gallery underneath is fully open and fluted, letting light reach the pavilion from every direction, which is exactly why the stone fires the way it does in these photos. Small round accent stones flank the shoulders and continue down each side of the band in marquise-shaped milgrain settings that taper toward the back.

The moissanite is the story here. It throws noticeably more colored fire than a diamond of the same size, and in this open scalloped mount there is nothing shading the pavilion, so the flashes read across a room. Set in 18K rather than 14K, the gold has a deeper, warmer yellow that plays against the icy white of the stone instead of competing with it. The interior is stamped 18K. Construction is solid throughout with clean prong work and a shank that tapers thin at the back for comfort without giving up strength.

At size 4.25 this suits a smaller finger, and the raised vintage inspired crown gives it presence well beyond its footprint.

Verifications:
Solid 18K gold has been verified using an Auracle Gold Analyzer.
Moissanite has been verified using a Presidium Adamas Diamond Tester, which specifically distinguishes diamonds from moissanite.

Fun Facts:
Moissanite was discovered in 1893 by Henri Moissan in the debris of a meteorite crater in Arizona; he first took the crystals for diamonds, and it took him years to identify them as silicon carbide. He later won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Natural moissanite is so vanishingly rare that essentially every gem on the market is lab grown, and it out-disperses diamond by more than two to one, which is the technical reason it throws those rainbow flashes a diamond simply cannot produce.
