Sterling silver abstract teardrop pendant set with an abalone shell panel and three bezel set amethysts, on a sterling box chain, marked S925 on both the pendant and the chain. The shell fills the upper two thirds of the teardrop as a single shaped panel cut to a sweeping curve, and below it the silver opens into a fan of narrow bars that radiate out to the rim with nothing behind them. Three small round amethysts sit in bezels placed along those bars at staggered points. The bail is wide and flat, and the chain is a fine box link finished with a lobster clasp.

The construction is a deliberate split between solid and open. The shell half is dense with color, deep teal and electric blue running in bands with green and gold breaking through at the edges, and because it is one continuous piece rather than fragments the banding reads as a single sweep across the whole upper field. The lower half is almost entirely air, just the bars and the three amethysts, so the pendant goes from saturated to skeletal from top to bottom and the eye finishes on the violet points rather than on metal. That iridescence in the shell is not pigment. It comes from nacre built in microscopic stacked layers, which is why the color shifts and relocates as the pendant swings rather than holding still.

Chain length 18 inch. The pendant hangs at the collarbone where the open lower half reads clearly against clothing.

Fun Facts:
Abalone shell is one of the toughest natural composites known. Nacre is built like brickwork, calcium carbonate tiles roughly half a micron thick stacked in layers with thin protein mortar between them, and that architecture makes the finished shell thousands of times more resistant to cracking than the mineral would be on its own. Materials scientists have spent decades trying to copy the structure in engineered ceramics.
Amethyst used to rank alongside ruby, sapphire and emerald as one of the cardinal gems, reserved for royalty and clergy across Europe. Enormous deposits found in Brazil in the early 1800s flooded the market and the price collapsed within a generation, which is the only reason a stone with that history is affordable today.
