Helzberg solid 10K white gold ring set with a heart cut ruby and white topaz accents, marked 10K with the Helzberg IK copyright mark and RG. The ruby is held in prongs with a V prong closing over the point of the heart, which is the correct mount for the cut since the tip is where a heart is most vulnerable. White topaz accents sit in small clusters at two opposing corners of the stone, placed on a diagonal rather than ringing it, so they draw a line across the head instead of outlining it. The shoulders rise from the band in opposing sweeps that curve up and frame the setting from both sides, and the shank stays a closed circle underneath.

Red against white metal is a harder pairing to pull off than red against yellow, and it is the better one. Yellow gold sits adjacent to red on the spectrum and warms a red stone until the two begin to blend at a distance. White metal does the opposite, holding a cool neutral that pushes the red forward and makes it read more saturated than the same stone would in a yellow mount. The white topaz reinforces it, since colorless stones against white gold stay bright and silver rather than picking up a warm cast.

Size 6.75.

Fun Facts:
Helzberg Diamonds was handed to the second generation almost before it existed. Morris Helzberg opened the first store in Kansas City in 1915 and fell ill soon afterward, and his son Barnett Helzberg Sr. stepped in to run a business barely a year old. It stayed in the family for the better part of a century, through Barnett Jr. taking over operations in 1963 and the chairmanship in 1988, until he sold the company to Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway in 1995. It has operated as a Berkshire company ever since.
The white in white gold is not the gold. Gold is yellow in every alloy, and white gold is made by mixing it with pale metals and then plating the finished piece in rhodium, which supplies the bright cold white most people picture. Rhodium is one of the rarest precious metals on Earth, scarcer in the crust than either gold or platinum, and its price per ounce has at times run to several multiples of gold's. The layer doing all that work on a ring is measured in microns.
