The band is a split shank. Each shoulder divides into two rails that sweep apart, frame an open window, then rejoin at the head to carry the stone, which lifts the peridot so the heart appears to float rather than sit flat against the finger. The upper rail of each shoulder is finished white and channeled to hold the CZ accents, four of them as I count it, two per side. Setting small white stones against a white ground is deliberate: a bright stone against yellow metal reads with a dark outline that shrinks it, while a white surround lets each one blend outward and read larger than it is. Those channels also pick up the cool tone of the peridot and keep the front of the ring from going flat yellow.

Peridot is one of a very small handful of gemstones that occurs in exactly one color. In most gems the color comes from a trace impurity that happened to wander into the crystal, which is why sapphire turns up blue, pink, yellow and green. In peridot the iron responsible for the green is part of the mineral's own chemical formula, built into every unit of the structure. A peridot without green would not be a peridot at all.
Some peridot did not form on earth. It turns up inside pallasite meteorites, a rare class of space rock made of nickel iron metal with gem crystals suspended through it like fruit in a cake, and a small number of cut peridots on the market are extraterrestrial in origin. Terrestrial peridot is nearly as dramatic in its sourcing, forming deep in the mantle and reaching the surface only when volcanic activity carries it up.
