Sterling silver ring set with a round labradorite cabochon in a raised bezel. The stone shows a soft gray-tan body with blue and green flash that shifts across the dome as the ring moves, brightening and disappearing depending on the angle. The bezel is surrounded by concentric silver detailing, with a twisted rope border ringed by a row of small beadwork, and the shank splits into a double band that rejoins at the shoulders with wrapped silver banding at each side. The interior is marked 925.

Labradorite is prized specifically for that flash, called labradorescence, and no two stones show it the same way, which makes every ring set with one visually unrepeatable. The framing here does a lot of work for the stone: the layered rope and bead borders give a plain round cabochon architectural weight and keep the eye moving inward toward the color. Silver settings suit the stone well since the cool metal doesn't compete with the blue-green in the flash.

Substantial face without much bulk on the finger, and the split shank keeps the profile light for daily wear.

Fun Facts
Labradorite takes its name from the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, where Moravian missionaries documented it in the 1770s, though Inuit peoples of the region knew the stone long before that.
An Inuit account holds that the northern lights were once trapped inside the rocks along the Labrador coast, and that a warrior struck them with his spear to release the lights into the sky, leaving the flash still caught in the stones he could not break open.
