This vintage East Arts solid 14K yellow gold ring centers a generous oval jade cabochon flanked by diamond set scrollwork shoulders. The jade is a soft apple green with a gentle mottling of paler tone through it, domed high and polished to that particular waxy glow that separates real jade from anything imitating it, and it sits in four rounded prongs that hold it securely without crowding the stone. The shoulders are where the design earns its keep: open curling scrollwork in yellow gold flows out from the center like a pair of unfurling ribbons, and set into the waist of each scroll is a small line of round diamonds in white gold, giving a cool flash of brightness on either side of the warm green. The openwork carries through the underside of the gallery so light passes behind the jade, and split shoulders taper into a slim comfortable shank. EA in an oval is the registered mark of East Arts Jewelry Manufactory of Hong Kong, a maker with genuine standing in the jade jewelry trade, which is exactly the provenance you want on a piece like this. Balanced, substantial, and beautifully finished from every angle.
