James Avery sterling silver Spanish Lace ring set with a round faceted lab created pink sapphire. The stone sits at the center in four prongs, a saturated hot pink that reads bright against the darkened silver around it. The Spanish Lace design is built from open scrollwork, with C curves and spirals sweeping symmetrically out from the stone to both sides and finishing in rolled tips, and a small polished silver bead sits at the top and bottom of the head. The recesses between the scrolls are darkened so the raised curves stand out in high contrast, while the band narrows to a plain flat shank at the back. The interior is stamped 925 with the James Avery candelabra mark and SYN.

The Spanish Lace motif comes out of the Spanish colonial ironwork and architectural tradition that runs through Texas, which is where James Avery has worked since 1954. What makes the design hold up is that the openings are as deliberate as the metal. Light passes straight through the gaps between the scrolls, so the pattern stays legible from a distance instead of reading as a solid lump, and the pink sapphire sits in the one closed space at the center where the eye naturally lands. The SYN stamp is James Avery's own mark for a lab created stone, which by their definition shares the same optical, physical, and chemical properties as a mined sapphire.

Ring size 5. Comes with the James Avery box and pouch. The stamps are crisp and fully legible.

Fun Facts:
James Avery started handcrafting jewelry in Kerrville, Texas in 1954, working out of a two car garage with about fifty dollars worth of tools and selling his earliest pieces through church groups and craft fairs.
Sapphire and ruby are the same mineral, corundum, separated only by trace elements, and the first lab grown corundum was produced in Paris in 1902 by the chemist Auguste Verneuil using a flame fusion process still named after him.
