David Yurman Classic Cable bracelet in sterling silver with solid 14K yellow gold end caps set with blue topaz, marked D.Y. with 925, 585 and the copyright symbol. The body is Yurman's signature helical cable, a 5mm twisted rope of silver running the full sweep of the cuff with the grooves darkened so every turn of the twist reads as a separate line. The cuff is open at the front, and each terminal is capped in solid 14K gold worked in stepped bands, with a faceted blue topaz bezel set into the end of each cap facing one another across the gap.

The cable is the reason this piece is recognizable across a room, and it is worth understanding what it actually is. The twist is not a cast texture pressed into a solid bar, it is genuine twisted wire, which is why the pattern stays crisp and continuous around the entire curve and why the cuff has spring to it rather than sitting dead on the wrist. The gold caps are doing structural and visual work at once, terminating the cable cleanly while putting the only warm metal on the piece at the two points the eye naturally lands. The blue topaz heads sit facing each other at the opening, so the gap between them becomes part of the design rather than an absence. A craftsman mark appears alongside the signature, the small factory stamp Yurman used on earlier production.

Bracelet size Large, 6.75 inch. The open cuff slips on over the wrist and adjusts slightly for fit, which is how a cable cuff is meant to be worn.

Fun Facts:
David Yurman trained as a sculptor before he ever made jewelry, and the Cable motif began as a single bracelet he hand twisted from fifty feet of wire, drawing on his interest in equestrian hardware. The helix has since been worked into effectively every category the house makes, which is unusual. Most designers are known for a collection, Yurman is known for a shape.
Topaz does not merely rate an eight on the Mohs hardness scale, it defines it. When Friedrich Mohs built the scale in 1812 he chose ten reference minerals to anchor the steps, and topaz is the one he assigned to eight. Every other stone's hardness is described by whether topaz will scratch it.
