Jacmel Jewelry solid 14K yellow gold ladybug stud earrings with red and black enameling, marked 14K and JCM. Each body is domed rather than flat, so the beetle has real volume on the ear instead of reading as a cut silhouette. Gold lines divide the form the way the insect itself is divided, one running down the center to separate the two wing cases and another cutting across to set off the black head, and the gold is left bright along every one of those divisions so the outlines catch light independently of the color. Small black spots sit scattered across the red, and tiny gold legs break the profile at the sides.

The red is the part worth looking at closely. The enamel is translucent rather than opaque, and underneath it the gold has been worked in a fine crosshatched grid that reads straight through the color. That texture is doing real work: a flat field of red enamel goes dead under direct light, while a patterned ground underneath scatters light back through the enamel at different depths, so the red shifts between deep and bright as the head turns. It is the difference between painted color and color with something happening inside it.

Posts with backs, scaled small enough to wear every day without the motif turning into a costume piece.

Fun Facts:
Jacmel Jewelry opened in New York City in 1977 and secured the JCM mark in February 1983, but what the company's record really shows is range. Over the following decades the house registered trademarks spanning fine gold jewelry, children's lines, body jewelry and crystal collections, which is an unusual spread for a single manufacturer. Most jewelry houses pick a tier and defend it. Jacmel built across the entire American market at once, which is why the JCM stamp turns up on everything from solid gold enamel novelties like these to department store chain.
The ladybug is named after the Virgin Mary. In medieval Europe, aphids were destroying crops and farmers prayed to Our Lady for help, and when swarms of small red beetles arrived and ate the aphids, the farmers credited the prayers and called them beetles of Our Lady. The English name ladybird, and later ladybug, is a worn down version of that phrase, and the red was said to stand for her cloak and the spots for her sorrows. The insect has carried a reputation for luck in nearly every European language since.
