RETIRED Etah Love Sterling Silver Gothic Chrysanthemum Flower Band Ring - Size 5

Retired Etah Love 925 sterling silver band ring with two chrysanthemum blooms set into a full wrap of oxidized leaves, marked 925 and stamped with the blackletter E the maker uses as its mark. The two blooms sit side by side at the crown, each built from concentric rings of short curled petals packed tight around a small textured center, and the petals are raised high enough to catch light individually rather than reading as one surface. Leaves run the entire circumference, overlapping and folding over one another so the band has no plain stretch anywhere, and the outer edge is left scalloped by the leaf tips rather than filed to a straight line.

The recesses are oxidized black while the raised surfaces stay bright, and that contrast is what makes the carving legible. Without it the petals would flatten into silver on silver at arm's length. Etah Love launched in 2019 as the self-described hell-raising sister of Clocks and Colours, handmade in sterling silver by master artisans in a Bali workshop under the line Hand Made for Heavy Metal Hearts. The label has since been folded into Clocks and Colours Women, which closes the window on anything carrying the blackletter E.

Size 5 at 7 grams. A size 5 has little circumference to distribute weight across, so all 7 grams go into the wall of the band, and it wears with the heft of a signet rather than a stacking ring. The interior is smooth and polished.

Fun Facts:
The brand name is a puzzle that answers itself. Etah is Hate spelled backwards, set directly against Love, and the house built its entire visual language around the struggle between the two. Once you have seen it you cannot unsee it on the stamp.
The chrysanthemum carries more political weight than any other flower in the world. The Imperial Seal of Japan is a sixteen petal chrysanthemum, the Japanese monarchy is formally called the Chrysanthemum Throne, and the flower is a cornerstone motif in traditional Japanese tattooing, which is where most of its modern appearances in metal and ink come from.
