RETIRED James Avery Solid 14K Gold Ichthus Fish Music Note Charm Pendant
Retired James Avery solid 14K gold charm pendant in the form of an eighth note with an ichthus worked into the note head. The note is built as a single solid piece, the oval head joined to a straight stem that rises to a broad curved flag sweeping back down the right side, and the ichthus sits inside the head as a raised outline with the two arcs crossing past each other at the tail in the traditional form. The back is smooth and unornamented. A jump ring at the top of the stem carries it, and the reverse is stamped 14K alongside the James Avery candelabra, both marks struck crisp and fully legible.
The design does what the best James Avery work does, which is carry a Christian symbol inside a form that reads first as something else. From a distance this is a music note. Up close it is a statement of faith, and the ichthus is sized and placed so the note head contains it exactly rather than having it applied on top. This piece is retired and no longer in production.
At 1 inch by 0.5 inch it has the presence to hang on its own as a pendant rather than reading only as a bracelet charm. Comes with the James Avery box and pouch.

Fun Facts:
Ichthus is the Greek word for fish, and early Christians used it as an acrostic, with the letters of ΙΧΘΥΣ standing for Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter, meaning Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior, which is why the fish became the symbol rather than any other animal.
James Avery began handcrafting jewelry in Kerrville, Texas in 1954, working out of a two car garage and selling his earliest pieces through church groups and craft fairs before the company grew into one of the best known names in American Christian jewelry.
