Retired James Avery Jerusalem Cross Sterling Silver Charm Pendant

$245.00

This retired James Avery sterling silver pendant renders the Jerusalem Cross, a large central cross flanked by four smaller crosslets in the quarters, in James Avery's distinctive hand-hewn style with softly rounded, slightly irregular arms that give the piece the look of forged metal rather than machined lines. The crosses stand proud of an open background so light passes through the negative spaces, and a small pierced star sits at the very center where the arms meet. The reverse is cleanly finished and clearly stamped. It hangs from a ring at the top so the cross sits square and forward-facing on a bracelet or chain. Included with the original James Avery box and pouch, which collectors of retired designs particularly seek out.

Fun Facts:
James Avery began handcrafting jewelry in 1954 in Kerrville, Texas, starting out in a two-car garage with a handful of tools before growing into one of the best-known American artisan jewelers.
The Jerusalem Cross, also called the Crusaders' Cross, carries its five crosses as a long-standing symbol of the Five Wounds of Christ, with the four small crosses also read as the four Gospels spreading from Jerusalem to the four corners of the earth.
